We are Your lakeshore east community advisory committee (“CAC”), A community group that was founded to work cooperatively with metrolinx to minimize the impact of the regional express rail (“RER”) project and other metrolinx project on the quality of life for the communities and neighbours living along the Lakeshore East railway line.
Our Mission
We’re striving to be an information source and mobilizing point of contact for as many neighbourhoods as possible along the Lakeshore East GO corridor from Saulter Street south of Queen to Woodbine.
The aims of the CAC (as agreed by Metrolinx) among other things,
To make recommendations in relation to sound and vibration mitigation and other issues related to the health and quality of life of the communities along the track
To make recommendations in relation to local design and landscaping as work is conducted
Work to support existing and create potential new public spaces as a component of the project
Advise on rail safety outreach
Main Areas of concern
Major construction projects occurring along the Lakeshore East Corridor at the same time for the next decade (both the track expansion and the Provincial government’s plans for the Ontario Line contemplate using the same length of track for multiple transit projects)
The expansion plans will result in trains rushing past homes, parks and schools as often as every three and a half minutes.
Find out what we know so far and whether your area is approved for noise mitigation
In addition to the track expansion, the Ford government has recently scrapped the previously approved downtown relief subway plans and announced elevated/at grade tracks from Gerrard to Corktown. These plans will mean that subway cars will occupy the same length of track with trains as often as every 45 seconds.
In addition to the construction projects, Metrolinx has already begun steadily increasing daily diesel trains with no mitigation for sound or vibration
What We've Already Achieved
We’ve had a number of feedback meetings with Metrolinx - including with subject matter experts in environmental issues, infrastructure design and development and with members of the executive directly
Submissions to Metrolinx for inclusion in their Request for Proposals on the track expansion
Ongoing dialogue with Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario as they undertake the design phase for the fourth track expansion
A unified front with a number of neighbourhoods on the CAC (including Upper Beaches, Old Riverdale and Riverside)
Engagement and participation from local city councillors and members of provincial parliament
